With a New Year comes all sorts of new things. 2018 could be the year that you create a family time capsule with your little ones and save it for when they are older.
It’s something you don’t hear about much anymore, but here are a few reasons why time capsules should make a comeback!
1. Importance of memories
If you are anything like me, you save EVERYTHING! Whether it be birthday cards or movie tickets, I still have them all. I do this because I thoroughly enjoy looking back and remembering that time in my life. It’s important to teach children the importance of memories at a young age. By doing this, you teach them that the moments in life are greater than the objects we have in life. By creating a time capsule, you are preserving a specific time in life. And it gives children something to look forward to as they get older.
2. Chance for creativity
We are always encouraging our children to show creativity, but creativity is often shown in very different ways. Time capsules offer a fun, unique way of letting your children express themselves. It gives them a chance to find or make something that is important to them at that point in their life, and place it into the capsule to look back on when they open it in 10 or 20 years.
3. How times have changed
As a child (and maybe even sometimes as an adult), you have trouble realizing how fast the world around us is constantly changing. Creating a time capsule serves as a way to collect the current trends and moments. Not to mention it’ll be pretty neat to look at in a few years.
4. Look forward to the future
For many, growing up can be scary and dreadful. But I believe it’s important to encourage our children to come up with small goals and plans for their future lives, even if that goal is to be Spider Man. Writing down goals with your children to place into a time capsule will create a funny moment when they open it in the future, but can also teach them the importance of having life aspirations.
Essentially, a family time capsule gives you a chance to preserve the time that is so quickly slipping through our fingers. Even if you don’t think so now, you will indeed miss the days your children were tracking mud through the house. A time capsule can offer a fond memory of those sweet days.
