15 Daddy-Daughter Date Night Ideas (Perfect for Father’s Day)
Father’s Day is the perfect excuse to slow down and spend some quality one-on-one time with your daughter. But the truth is, you don’t need a special occasion to make your kids feel special — and you don’t really have to do much either.
Making a daddy-daughter date night a regular occurrence is something she’ll remember for the rest of her life and is such a meaningful way to create lasting memories together. And the best part? It doesn’t have to mean a fancy dinner or expensive outing. There are so many simple, affordable ways to make your little girl feel loved and celebrated.
1. Picnic in the Park
Whip up some sandwiches and head to your local park – just don’t forget to bring a blanket to sit on! This will give you some quality time together while enjoying the great outdoors. You could even bring a ball to play catch with or find a park with a playground for her to play on afterwards.
2. Take a Dance Class
Alright dads, before you skip over this one, taking a dance class with your daughter isn’t an uncommon thing. Many dance studios around the country have recognized how fun this can be and offer daddy-daughter dance classes just for the fun of it. Check your local dance studio and ask around for someone who is holding one of these nights, or just have a dance party in your kitchen.
3. Go on a Scavenger Hunt
Make a list of things you want to do or see in your city and make it a point to check off as many as you can! Or you can go the more traditional route and go scavenger hunting around your neighborhood looking for pinecones, four-leaf clovers, and more.
4. Do Her Favorite Thing
If she loves basketball, play a game in your driveway. If she likes to color, grab a few princess coloring books on your way home from work. Have a tea party in your living room or kick the soccer ball in your backyard. Find whatever she loves to do and do that!
5. Paint Pottery
There are so many cool places that allow you to paint your own pottery and do the rest for you. You get to pick out what you paint and how you paint, and they will do the firing so all you have to do is pick it up in a few days. This may not seem like the most exciting thing for all you dad’s out there but I can assure you, your daughter will love it. Plus, how fun would it be to have a hand-painted mug by your daughter sitting at your desk every day?
6. Go to Your Local Museum
Museum, aquarium, art gallery – or whatever it is you have in your city. These fun and educational places are a great way to spend an afternoon together. A local kids museum is the perfect place for fun hands-on learning and exploration together.
7. Head to the Trampoline Park
You might just have more fun than she will. Just be careful not to injure yourself in the process. Trampoline parks are fun for kids of all ages – yes that includes you, big-kid dad.
8. Make Dinner Together
You might not be the world’s best chef, but when you’re making memories together, who cares? Make something simple like a homemade pizza and pop in her favorite movie for the perfect daddy-daughter date night in.
9. Go Skating
Yes, local skating rinks are still a thing. Take your daughter and learn how to balance on those wheels again. You might surprise yourself with how much you remember, and if you fall, your daughter will just have a funny story to tell about you to all her friends.
10. Go to a Musical or Play
Tickets to the big Broadway shows can get kind of pricey. Check your local high school to see when their next production will be, or see what shows are coming to your local theatre.
11. Build Something Together
Teach her why you spend so many hours in the garage by building something together. Build a new bookcase for her room while teaching her all the basics of power tools – within reason of course. Safety first! Don’t forget to wear protective eyewear!
12. Go for a Bike Ride
Get some fresh air and ride your bike around the neighborhood. Many cities will now have bike paths or trails that you can follow, so check in your local area to find a trail and get outside.
13. Grab Some Ice Cream
Bonus points if you ride your bike to get some ice cream. Everybody loves a sweet treat, so take your sweet little girl to grab some ice cream tonight. And don’t forget the sprinkles!
14. Bring Her to Work
We’ve all heard of the bring-your-daughter-to-work days, but let’s make it happen! Check with your boss first, of course. But what a fun way to spend some quality time together by showing her what you do.
15. Learn a New Sport Together
If she’s been dying to try out soccer, then grab a soccer ball and head to your backyard. It’s okay if you don’t know all the rules, just kick around the ball together until she gets the hang of it.
This Father’s Day, remember that the best gift you can give your daughter is your time. Whether it’s a big daddy-daughter adventure or a simple date-night at home, those special moments together are what create lifelong memories.
