We offer MECK Pre-K, a FREE high-quality Pre-K program for four-year-olds in Mecklenburg County. Classes are taught by licensed teachers and help prepare children for long-term success in school. MECK Pre-K Overview
The overall goal of the MECK Pre-K program is school readiness.
MECK Pre-K emphasizes the following:

- Mathematical and scientific thinking
- The joy of learning
- Social and emotional skills
- Language and literacy abilities
The curriculum fosters the development of the whole child.

Pre-K Program Length & School Year
MECK Pre-K provides a full 6.5-hour instructional day, 5 days a week. Extended day services (before- and after-school care) are also available.
Demand often exceeds our available classroom space, so we encourage families to enroll early to secure their slot.
Eligibility / Registration Requirements
MECK Pre-K Program is free to all four-year-old children, regardless of parental income. Children must be 4 years of age on or before August 31 of that school year, and a resident of Mecklenburg County.
The following is required by Mecklenburg County to register your child for this program:

- Proof of child’s age and legal name (birth certificate or passport).
- Proof of parent identity (government or state photo ID, license, or passport).
- Current proof of Mecklenburg County residency (utility bill, payroll stub, bank statement, current vehicle registration, etc.).
- Current immunization records.
