Explorers teacher wins gold in Seattle!
Colorado Springs, CO – Dec. 17, 2015 – Congratulations to Sunshine House Center 175 teacher Akita Williams for the four medals she recently won at an in-line speed skating event in Seattle:
- Gold for Master 2 lady relay
- Silver for Master 2 mixed relay
- Silver for Overall Division
- Gold for 100 meter fly (her favorite)
This is on top of breaking two national records last year and winning a national inline speed skating championship!
Akita has been skating since she was practically the age of the students she now teaches. She’s also competed in roller derby for the last nine years, and, between the two, practices six days a week and travels most weekends out of the month.
And she’s mom to a 17-year-old son, who, like his mother, enjoys the fast life on skates as a roller hockey player (though, she’s glad he’s pursuing a football scholarship in college next year).
Akita was born and raised in Colorado Springs and has 15 years’ experience in early education. She joined The Sunshine House in December, 2014, and we’re so glad to have her!
