Director Connect: Spotlighting Our Directors
Fran Bartlett celebrates 24 years with The Sunshine House!
When Sunshine House Center Director Fran Bartlett started out as a part-time infant / toddler assistant teacher in 1992, she had no idea she was embarking on the career of a lifetime.
But, several classrooms, three locations and 24 years later, she says she couldn’t imagine it any other way.
“Caring for and nurturing children is all I am wired to do. It is my passion,” she says.
After teaching in “every age group” at the Sunshine House’s NAD Road location in Charleston, Fran was promoted to Center Director at Dorchester Road in 1999 and worked there until 2011 when she transferred to The Sunshine House in Summerville, SC.
“Summerville has been my home!,” says Fran, who along the way graduated with honors from Trident Technical College with a degree in Applied Science and Early Childhood Education. She has also earned multiple state credentials for teaching infants through afterschool.
“The last 24 years have been the best! As with any career, it has its peaks and valleys, but going home every day feeling like I have helped or touched a child or family in some way always outweighs the valleys!”
Fran is also grateful she has been able to watch her sons, Cody, 22, and Kobe, 15, grow up in the best environment, attend school and graduate with honors. And she is still happily married to her high school sweetheart, John, after 25 years.
In her spare time, Fran enjoys reading and spending lots of time at the beach. “Living on the coast is the best!” she says. Plus, she loves her family’s beloved Weimaraner, Tinsel.
